Yes, you can make a banana piano with a piece of hardware, some crocodile clips, and a Mac. No software is required. You can even turn the same thing into a joypad for playing Mario, with some additional play-doh and a paper note pad.
An invention by MaKey MaKey, a new startup, you can actually order this board now from them.
A pcb, with some connectors and Arduino chips, this thing really works.

Facebook Timeline Remover
Facebook Timeline, like it or hate it, it is here no matter what you think. While most of the Facebook users has been forced to change to Timeline, some still at older Facebook interface. I am lucky that my personal Facebook page still using old Facebook interface, while this blog's Facebook Page has been forced to change to Timeline not too soon after it was being setup.
TimeLineRemove is something you can try if you want to get rid of the TimeLine for now. What actually happen in background is timeline still being loaded, but TimeLineRemove change the look of the TimeLine to become old and good Facebook interface. So you can look at your friend's Facebook profile on old Facebook interface.
TimeLineRemove is available for FireFox, Chrome, Safari and Internet Explorer. All you need to do is go to it's website and install the add-on or extension (allow permission if needed), reload the Facebook and then you are on old and good Facebook interface.

The Best Cloud Storage
This is not based on review reports that compiled from internet. This is my actual experience and I have all these accounts. I hilited winner for each item.
Clearly, I don't care about the paid services. There are so many free cloud service, why do we need to pay for it? Unless you really like a cloud service so much that you willing to pay for it. ADrive is the winner in this case, once you sign up, you get 50GB, no hassle, no need to like Facebook fanpage, no need to refer to your friends. Skydrive supposedly get the silver medal, but it reduced to 7GB after Google Drive debut, stingy Microsoft, boo! Congrats to those manage to get 25GB before it expired.
For second item, the total storage have I have on these cloud services, ADrive and Box.com are the winners. Box.com will offer free upgrade from time to time. iOS users was offered on 2011, and Android users was offered on beginning of 2012. What you need to do is install the mobile apps and sign up or login using the apps and you will get 50GB. There is no offer at the moment, except for certain brand of smartphone. Sugarsync can be a winner here as well, if you can refer Sugarsync to many people, and every free account being sign up, you will get additional 500MB. There is a famous blogger in Taiwan has over 100GB of storage on Sugarsync.
For upload file size limit, Pogoplug and Sugarsync are the winner, if the users are not limited by the browser and memory/RAM on the system users that using. This might be a catch here, if you are using lower end system, the upload limit might be less than 1G. I don't have the answer here, because I am using sandybridge with 4GB RAM. 115.com and ADrive clearly have stated 2GB is the file size limit, so they can be the winner as well.
Of all these cloud services, only ADrive does not have desktop client for free account. All the rest can sync using the desktop apps. 115.com and DBank only offer desktop client for Windows only, while mostly provide desktop client for both Windows and Mac. The winner in this category is Pogoplug because it also provide desktop client for Linux.
The winner on mobile apps category is Sugarsync, which includes Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Symbian and amazingly Windows Mobile (WinMo). WinMo is already an obsolete OS, but you still can upload files to Sugarsync from WinMo. Most of the cloud services have at least Android and iOS mobiles apps. Only ADrive does not have any mobile apps.
All cloud service allow syncing using desktop client or mobile apps, except ADrive.
All could service allow sharing. I remember there is one of them allow users to share within a limited time, however I can't remember which, I will update this when I find it.
Here is a table for the comparison, either you find one that is suitable for your usage, or like me just register with all of them. :P I have total of 170GB of cloud storage

Non-touch screen technology
Wait a minute, isn't touch screen is the most hip thing nowadays? If you don't have a touch screen device, you seems like out of touch from technology. Well, in this case it is you don't need to touch the screen, what you need is finger gesture. Similar to X-Box kinect, but you don't need to be jumping up and down, squat and wave like a mad man or woman to control the game. Watch the video from Leap Motion:
The second video seems like same as first video, jump to 0:52 to see the fingers being detect and play Angry Birds with a pair of chopstick!
Btw, touch screen can hurt fingers or skin if you use it too much and too often, especially playing games. :)

Facebook Free Money?
Facebook is giving me free money. No bluffing, Facebook is really giving me free money.
I got this email from Facebook last night:
Apparently it is because this blog's Facebook Page has reached 300 Likes last week. Facebook is offering me US$50, wow, that is about RM150. Not bad at all.
US$50 for Facebook is much much smaller than a peanut. With market capital at 70.62B (May 24, 2012), the money Facebook gave me is about 0.0000000007% from it's market capital.
Anyway, how often someone that is not working for Facebook getting money from Facebook? :P
Alright, I am going to use the free money to run ads on Facebook!

Mini-Android Computer for US$74 only!
How much it cost you the last time you bought your last computer or laptop? At least a few hundred dolars (more than RM1k) right? Would you want to buy a secondary computer or laptop for your family that just want to surf net and email that cost as much as your first computer? I don't.
How about a mini computer that cost about US$74? Of course this is come without screen/monitor.
pix source: http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm-img/563764893-New-released-Android4-0-IPTV-google-tv-smart-android-box-allwinner-A10-Model-MK802-Notice-just-wholesalers.html
Powered by a 1GHz Cortex-A8 ARM CPU, 512MB of memory and 4GB storage, this guy can run ICS (Android 4.0)! With WiFi b/g, expandable storage up to 32GB, a micro USB port, you can turn this this into your secondary PC just for net surf and email.
The website also claimed that the HDMI ports supports 1080p and 2160p. Come with pre-installed apps such as Youku, Tudou, QQ, Youtube, Twitter, AngryBird, Office, Gmail, Browser and Skype. However there are 4 question marks after Skype, I wonder that is some sort of fine print. You know what I mean.
It is free shipping via China Post Air Mail to most of the country world wide. I think it is a great deal for a secondary PC. And it is sold out at the moment, you can order now, but you have to wait for the supply to come in to the seller.
Go to this website to look for more detail and fine print :P

How to Unlock Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9
XDA is always full of wonderful people. This time its member yassine22 shared the method on unlocking Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9.
pix source: samsung.com
Step 1: Root your tab
[ why root the tablet: unlocking the tablet requires access to hidden system files in the root. The root is not normally made accessible to the standard users]
Step 2: Preparing to unlock
Verification to make sure everything is OK
Warning: unlock/root your Samsung Galaxy Tab may void the warranty as well as brick the device, do it at your own risk.

source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26368706#post26368706
pix source: samsung.com
Step 1: Root your tab
[ why root the tablet: unlocking the tablet requires access to hidden system files in the root. The root is not normally made accessible to the standard users]
- From the web, search a Root package (easy to find on the web, just google ‘galaxy’ ‘root zip’ you’ll get a small zip file, it may be root.zip, root2.zip, doesn’t matter)
- Download the root zip file.
- Copy it to your tab and remember exactly the folder where you paste it.
- Turn off you tab.
- Press simultaneously the volume (-) and power buttons and continue pressing until you got a system screen with two items menu (download, and …).
- Press the volume (-) again to navigate through the two items of the menu, select upgrade.
- In the top of the screen, you’ll get a list menu with 4 items. Scroll to item “install from SDCard” (use volume (-) and (-) to scroll).
- Press power button to select.
- You’ll have to select the root zip folder, navigate through the folder structure using volume (-) (+) buttons.
- Press the power button to execute the zip file.
- Rooting operation will start, you’ll see many progress messages, just wait until the whole process finishes, it takes few seconds.
- Navigate back the menu item “reboot the tab”, press power button.
Step 2: Preparing to unlock
- From the market, install the free app “super user”.
- Open the newly created shortcut “super user” and validate any message you get, close if necessary, [the SuperUser is an app that will work in the background and grant permissions –when necessary- to other applications to access root. Without it, rooting a tab is meaningless].
- From the market, install “root manager” [root manager is now your file manager that can go deep through the folder structure and access root folders].
- Launch the “root manager”, the first time you do that, you’ll be prompted to allow “Super User” to grant permissions to “root manager”, allow that.
- Take some time to make yourself familiar with “root manager”, it’s a very simple but powerful file manager.
- Now go back to serious work, locate the folder \efs at the root, [efs folder is very important, it holds all the information to validate your tablet to the GSM/3G operator, it validates the authenticity of your IMEI].
- Just make a copy of the whole folder and save it in a safe place – your PC or a memory stick-. We’ll be back later to this copy, continue now on the tab.
- Open \efs folder, locate the file nv_data.bin.
- Make a copy of nv_data.bin in the same folder \efs and rename the file eg: ORIGINAL_nv_data.bin
- Delete all the files in the \efs folder except nv.log. Don’t delete the sub folders ( you should normally have the following sub folders .files, imei, gyro….).
- Now leave the tablet powered on (don’t turn off) and move to your PC to continue job,
- In the copy of the \efs folder that you previously made, locate the original file nv_data.bin.
- Make a copy of this file somewhere in your PC. That’s the copy you will be working on.
- Edit nv_data.bin with HexEdit.[ If you are not familiar with depths of binary files, don’t be daunted by the array of codes and bytes].
- Locate the byte 0x181469, it should read 01 value, just edit it to 00 value, do nothing more, just save and exit.
- Now you have created the molded copy of nv_data.bin.
- You need to move this copy of nv_data.bin onto your tablet, either using a memory stick or by USB cable. Paste the file in the \efs folder.
- Now that you pasted the molded nv_data.bin to \efs folder, it needs some minor adjustments before being used.
- In the “root manager”, press and hold on the newly pasted nv_data.bin.
- You’ll get a menu, select properties.
- In the properties box, check all the 9 options (read, write, execute), leave the others.
- Save and exit root manager.
- Go the market and install the free app “terminal emulator”.
- Launch the terminal emulator, accept any message for super user permission.
- In the terminal emulator, execute the following commands [press enter after each line of command]:
- su
- chown 1001:radio \efs\nv_dat.bin
- reboot

Finding Free WiFi in Penang
Even though quite a lot of people subscribe to data plan or 3G/4G plan with their telco, there are even more people trying to stay out of it to reduce the phone bill cost. One of them is me, Penang Uncle. In my opinion, there is no need to always 'online' with data plan or 3G/4G plan, unless I am a VVIP and I need to check facebook/twitter/viper/whatsapp every minute. If I need to be on internet, I can easily find free wifi hotspot in many places.
Penang Government did a good job in recent years to work with private companies to enable as many as wifi hotspot all over Penang. But where are these wifi hotspots?
Check out this webpage to find the free wifi hotspots in Penang:
http://www.redtone.com/services/penang_wifi.php
You might need to register before use the free wifi service with a valid email account. And speed is not guarantee. Even the free wifi I use at Japan (I went to Japan on Apr 2012) also don't have guarantee speed.
Enjoy your free wifi in Penang!

RarmaRadio: Listen to the World
Since early 20th century (a.k.a 19xx) when the first Radio station started broadcasting as a source of information and entertainment, it never looks back. Radio stations nowadays not only have to compete with the TV stations (local/cable/satellite/etc), but also the internet. Even though radio is lack of a screen to see, but it is still a great source of entertainment and information whenever I drive or traveling on public transport. It is dangerous to watch a show on LCD screen when we are driving, so radio still the best choice. :P
Most of the radio stations nowadays have put up their websites and allow us to listen to them through the internet. The problem with that is some of the website required us to register with your email first before you can listen to the radio stream. Before you know it, you have tons of ads or spam mails in your inbox. Not to say the radio station spam you, but having too many emails in inbox is certainly not a good thing. There are a few software out there that can locate the radio stations easily and let us listen to the radio online without the need to register for each station. RarmaRadio is one of my favourite.
There are a few ways to navigate for the radio station, such as genres, network, region(a.k.a. country).
Picture below showing I am listening to JP Hip from Japan. RarmaRadio will show the logo of the radio station if it can find it. RarmaRadio will also shows the type of audio stream, which usually either mp3 or wma or aac. The Bitrate column is a good reference because if you are on slower network, the best to avoid those high Bitrate station. I tried some radio stations with Bitrate of 128k on TM Streamyx 1Mbps, and the result is very bad, the sounds keep on breaking up.
Picture below showing I am listening to EKR from UK. If the station support the song name/artist name, it will show in the box below.
One is the great feature of RarmaRadio is I can record the station with few options:
1. continuously with auto split song or no split (into one big music file)
2. record with timer
3. record current song only
RarmaRadio did a good work to update the list as often as possible, if you find out a station you like to listen but it could not stream correctly, you can feedback to RarmaRadio.
The only disadvantage that I found on RarmaRadio is it will keep on streaming the station you listening to before you switch to another station, if you are on slow network, it will chock both station because RarmaRadio will continue stream the previous station. This feature is good only if you like to switch station very often. I would recommend to stop streaming first before switch to another station.

How to Downgrade to Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy Note
I said this too many times, but I still want to say this, XDA members are wonderful and talented people. This time XDA member thehackersz posted the guide on how to downgrade to Gingerbread from ICS on Samsung Galaxy Note.
Why do we want to downgrade when we supposedly upgrade the OS? Sometime it might be loosing the root, sometime it might be buggier than we thought, and some might don't like the new OS. For whatever reason, downgrade sometime is the only option.
So here is the method:
- download any GB custom rom, copy to your sdcard
- download jBroid Kernel Cleaning, copy to yout sdcard
- download AbyssNote v4.2 kernel, copy to your sdcard
- download CF LPY kernel, EXTRACT zImage and copy to you sdcard.
- Mobile Odin, flash zImage
- reboot to CWM recovery
- flash jBroid Kernel Cleaning
- flash AbyssNote v4.2 kernel
- reboot recovery
- flash new GB custom rom
- flash new kernel (if you prefer other than AbyssNote kernel)
- FULL WIPE
- REBOOT
For the full thread, go to this:

Sony Xperia U - Should I get it?
I am looking for a new smartphone, Penang Uncle finally have enough money to change phone! Yeah!
Anyway, I went to Gurney Plaza the other night to look around. I was actually asking for the pricing of Samsung Galaxy S Advance. It was announced by Samsung Malaysia that the retail price is RM1299 (~US$420). And almost all the shops in Gurney Plaza is selling at this same price. There is only one shop can offer maybe RM50 (~US$16) of discount with no accessory such as casing, and screen protector that others are offering.
The salesman at the same shop that can offer discount introduced me to the Sony Xperia U. And the retail price is RM899 (~US$288), come with car charger in original package (from Sony) plus other normal stuffs you get when you buy smartphone. This is a very tempting offer! Why?
After I came back from Gurney Plaza, I did the normal routine, which is google it!
Here are some info that I found:
Comparison between Sony Xperia U and Samsung Galaxy W:
Should I wait for the Sony Xperia U with ICS official upgrade or just go buy now?

- The cheapest dual core Android phone. Samsung Galaxy W is selling at RM999 (~US$320) and it is single core only. I can notice the lagging when using CPU intensive apps only my wife's Samsung Galaxy W.
- Sony promised to upgrade to ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich, a.k.a Android 4.0) by Q2 this year. And ICS is known that cannot be run on Android phone with single core CPU.
- The exterior is much more good looking compare to these Samsung Android phone:
- Samsung Galaxy S Advance (RM1299, ~US$420)
- Samsung Galaxy W (RM999, ~US$320)
- Samsung Galaxy Ace (~RM600 to RM750, ~US$192 to US$240)
- Samsung Galaxy Gio (~RM400 to RM550, ~US$128 to US$176)

- Some review video of Sony Xperia U that I found, which after the comparison.
Comparison between Sony Xperia U and Samsung Galaxy W:
- Sony Xperia U over Samsung Galaxy W
- LED-backlit [screen looks nicer la]
- Sony Mobile BRAVIA Enginer [again, screen looks nicer la]
- 480 x 854 pixels which translate to ~280 ppi pixel density [SGW is 480 x 800 pixels only with ~252 ppi pixel density]
- DLNA [able to share music, video and photos to other DLNA device, such as LED/LCD TV, no need to be same brand]
- 4GB storage [compare to 1.7GB storage only on Samsung Galaxy W]
- Able to shoot 3D sweep panorama [not default on SGW, but should be able to find such apps?]
- Dual-core CPU
- Upgradable to Android 4.0 (ICS), officially announced by Sony
- Flashy LED strip [great for show off]
- Samsung Galaxy W over Sony Xperia
- 3.7 inches screen [compare to 3.5 inches on Sony Xperia U]
- support microSD card [no card slot on Sony Xperia U !!!]
- Come with SWYPE
Should I wait for the Sony Xperia U with ICS official upgrade or just go buy now?

Free Online Courses from MIT and Harvard
Few years back, MIT already offered free online courses through MIT OpenCourseWare. The material that being published in OpenCourseWare is same as the one being used in MIT campus. Now MIT and Harvard joint partnership to further enhance the online learning experience, EdX.
EdX not only offers courses from MIT, but from Harvard as well. With this, for those who looking for other scope that MIT didn't covers, they can find Harvard's courses in EdX, and it is free!
Video streaming by Ustream
I did registered for OpenCourseWare few years ago and benefit from it. I will register for EdX to interesting topics from Harvard as well. :)

Travel for Free (maybe)
Like to travel? Want to travel for free? Well, you can do that, only if you are beautiful. Read this, beautiful. Sorry guys, only for girls. There is no free lunch in this world however. There is a price you have to pay (not money in this case), but rather something else...... Sounds scary?
MissTravel.com is an online dating website. There are 2 groups of members, the first one is the "attractive" travelers which get the free travel. The second group is the "generous" travelers which will cover the travel cost of the "attractive" members, plus any others stuffs and also there is a need to pay a fee to the MissTravel.com if you decided to communicate with any "attractive" travelers.
Here is a video made by the website to explain it in simple language:
Basically this is an online dating website. But the ultimate goal is to let "generous" travelers to have a company when travel, while "attractive" travelers get to full fill their wish of travel for free.
I get nothing by introducing this website. And I would advice to be extra care when using online dating services. The website put up some safety tips, therefore I would think they will not responsible to you when you use their service, since they already put it in terms and conditions:

First View of Tizen - latest Mobile OS
Heard of Tizen? No, I have no idea which language it sounds like. Does not sounds like Chinese for sure. :)
It was created to replace Meego which being abandon by Nokia, then by Intel. So Intel work with Samsung for this Tizen. Rumors (not me) says that Tizen is to replace Bada, the mobile OS created by Samsung. Smartphone market is super dynamic market, what you making now, not necessary will be successful in one year down the road. But you can always depend on rumors to create the hype. Remember iPhone prototype always being left at some bar?
Anyway, this is a video of the reference design created by Samsung, the first ever working Tizen.
The hardware is some 1GHz CPU, but the video showing lack of fluidness with the interface, probably need more hard work on the coding. I hope Tizen would somehow create some stir to the current boring Mobile OS, such as iOS (yarn), Android (a mess), WP (becoming cheap brand), and BlackBerry (per-historic thingy?). :P

WakeupOnStandBy to wakeup computer (again?)
Okay, maybe you feel like KM Wakeup is too simple and would like a more complete (complex) solution, why not give it a try on WakeupOnStandBy?
As you can see in the picture above, the interface is much more complicated than KM Wakeup.
The author of this software put up an online manual of it since it is too complicated:
http://www.dennisbabkin.com/php/docs.php?what=wosb
The online manual also indirectly show how many things it can does.
FAQ:
http://www.dennisbabkin.com/php/faq.php?what=wosb#1
The download link is different for Window 98/ME and other Windows:
Windows 98/ME: http://www.dennisbabkin.com/php/download.php?go=WOSB1714
Windows 2k/XP/Vista/7: http://www.dennisbabkin.com/php/download.php?go=WOSB
I would think only try this if you geek enough. :)

Samsung Galaxy S 3
Samsung Galaxy S3 is finally announced by Samsung. I can't wait to watch the latest update from the thenextgalaxy.com, however it is a very disappointment video, I think any gred3 student can edit a better video than the first part of the video that interviewed some people. Luckily the sounds during the unpacked event is okay. Anyway, if you really a Samsung Galaxy fan boy, probably the unpacked event is your cup of tea.
Hey Samsung, time to change your publicity agency that did the interview video.
Update: from gsmarena.com

KM Wakeup that wake up computer
KM Wakeup. No, it is not related to KMPlayer, not at all. It is actually a software acts as an alarm and control when to turn on/off computer, play chosen sounds (alarm clock??) and run applications.
Actually it will not shutdown the computer completely, it will be standby mode. There is no way to get a software to wake up a computer from complete shutdown because the software depend on the OS and as long as the OS not booted yet, the software will not work. However if the computer in standby mode, the software should be able to wake up the computer.
KM Wakeup will works only with hardware and software that are ACPI/APM compatible, which mean Windows OS from Windows 98 onward (until Windows 7) should be able to handle it.Sorry Apple fanboys, no luck for you, again. :P
You can make the computer to wake up or put it to standby in all sort of frequency, including once, daily, which day, weekly, monthly and yearly. About yearly, who would want to wake up a computer once a year? :P
What I can think of the usage is if you have a personal computer at home which primary job is to download stuffs but you don't want it to be switch on all day long (to save some electricity and money), you can set it to turn on at specific time and launch the software (torrent, thunder, qvod, ppstream, pptv, whatever) and then put it to standby at another specific time.
To download KM Wakeup, go to http://kmtools.win-os.pl/download.php?lang=ang
Opps... Forgot to mention, it is FREE! :D

BlackBerry10
BlackBerry, a dying mobile OS, has come out with latest version BlackBerry10. If you take a look at the their promotion video below, some of the prototype looks like iPhone 4S casing. Anyway, why I say it is dying? Read this comic before you watch the video:
