Make the keyboard easier to use in Windows 7

I have talked about how to disable auto-maximize snap feature in Windows 7 yesterday, today I am going to show you how to make the keyboard easier to use in Windows 7.

1. Go to “Control Panel - Ease of Access Center”.
2. Go to “Make the keyboard easier to use” and uncheck the item “Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen.”.
3. Click apply and try these keys to see how you can use keyboard shortcut to quickly maximize your windows. :)

Win+Down Win+Left Win+Right

Win+Up	Maximize
Restore/Minimize
Snap to left
Snap to right

How to turn off the Auto-Maximize Snap Feature in Windows 7

You might have notice when dragging windows in Windows 7, you can see the windows suddenly 'snap' and maximized if you drag the windows close enough to the edge of the screen. Some find it useful, but not for me. So after some googling, here is what you can do to disable it.

1. Go to “Control Panel - Ease of Access Center”.
2. Go to “Make the mouse easier to use” and check the item “Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen”.
3. Click apply and try dragging any windows to see the different.

How to download TED videos

There are methods available on internet on how to download youtube video, but how about TED videos?

What is TED by the way? Click here.


Okay, here are the steps.

1. Download the metalink from http://metated.petarmaric.com/

2. Use the software show here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metalink#Client_programs

3. Copy the link from the metalink files
Example: http://www.ted.com/talks/download/video/10062/talk/993 which Barton Seaver talks about Sustainable seafood.

4. Add the links into the software mentioned in step 2.


I use DownThemAll, which is an add-on on FireFox. Here are how to use DownThemAll to download TED videos: FireFox , Tools, DownThemAll! Tools, Manager... , Add URL(s).

 I have blogged DownThemAll! before.

Should be very soon you can share the TED videos with your family/friends from your laptop/computer :)

iPhone-Developers Officially Launches!

XDA-Developers has its first sister site: iphone-developers.com.

You might also like widget

You might have noticed that recently I have added a new widget on this blog. It is called "You might also like" widget.

This could to increase the clicks on your blog(s) because some readers could be interested on other topics showed there.

To get this widget, just go to http://www.linkwithin.com/learn and fill in the required information in there and it will give you the widget. It can even link to your blogger account and add it in to your blog. What you need to do is to move it under the blog post box. The steps are showed when you click the "get widget!" button.

Go ahead, try it. :) It makes your blog(s) have a more sophisticated feel. :)

Super-Widescreen Acer Android Handset

DroidSans has posted some photos of new Acer Android smartphone. It looks like unusually widescreen! The second photos shows that 21:9 ratio of the widescreen, HD movie supported maybe? I doubt it, because 800MHz processor only! Should be runnng Froyo. I always have problem with Acer, any Acer product I bought would broken right after the warranty expire. :(

World's First Robot Pop Star

Phishing email

Today I got an email in my Gmail spam box with sender name "Maybank" (one of the online banking I use) and title "You have 1 new security alert". Sender with this email "jamfiddl@aol.com". I know what is a phishing email, but out of curiosity, I went to click on the link.

It looks like exactly the real MaybanktoU.com! I went on to fill in some bogus information, WAHAHAHAHA, the fler should get some surprise today. :P

Please educate your family or friends or even strangers, do not response to email from bank unless you verified with the bank. Do not call the phone number in the email as well, they probably setup it so that they can fools you. Call to the bank real number, visit the official website of the bank.
Also if you find any of these phishing emails/links, please notify the bank.

Digital will - what happens if I die

Nowadays everyone should already have at least an email account, facebook/twitter account, online banking account, blogger account, and many more online accounts. What happen if someone pass away suddenly without leaving the traces of login name and password for these account? It would take months or years to get the online companies to believe that you are the beneficial of the deceased. Some accounts you might want to notify the readers immediately, but how do you do it without the deceased's password? No one would like their family members to suffer even more when they found out they cannot do anything with the deceased online accounts!



Fortunately now there are a few companies provide sort of digital will services. I found 2 that works differently.

1. legacy locker
With the free (basic) account, you can have 3 assets you can store in there with just 1 beneficiary and 1 legacy letter. You can also assigned a different verifier so the time come, the verifier will notify Legacy Locker to give out the assets (passwords) to the beneficiary.

2. deathswitch
This one works different from Legacy Locker. With the free account, you can create 1 message to send to 1 recipient at a specific trigger time. You can set from day up to a year where deathswitch will send you a email and you have to response to it so that they know you are still alive. A bit more troublesome, but more secure I think.

SO what do you think? Should you create one account on these companies?

GIMP Portable

GIMP is always my choice of software to edit photos or pictures, because it is free! Although not 100% comparable to Photoshop, it wins because it is free. Adobe Photoshop CS5 is now selling at US$699 at Adobe website. That is very ka-ching!!!

Today GIMP Portable 2.6.11 Rev 3 is released.
Why portable? Because it will be much more cleaner to the Windows, no clustering the Windows system directory. Usually portable apps need you to create the shortcut to the program itself, but the guys at portableapps.com did a really good job to make a exe to unzip the files and create a shortcut for you.

Spb Mobile Shell 5.0

I am a huge fan of Spb Mobile Shell after tried several different UI on my HTC Touch Elfin. Spb Mobile Shell is the only UI that survived until today. I am no longer using HTC TouchFLO, ever!



Spb have announced Spb Mobile Shell 5.0 which they claimed not only for WM, but other OS as well. Not sure how they going to go into other OS segment, not important for me :P So enjoy the video:




p/s: Spb Mobile Shell is not free! But some mobile manufacturer might include it for you, so it is free for you in this case.

PC freeware: YouChoob - the best YouTube video downloader so far

I have been searching YouTube video downloader for a while, some live up to my expectation (if I lower the expectation a bit :P ). I have tried some websites that you provide the YouTube link and then they will show you the download link, but most of them are not working nowadays. :(



I have installed different add-on on FireFox, some works, some don't. I will share those working one in future. But today I want to share a freeware for PC that can download YouTube easily. It can detect YouTube link in you clipboard (meaning once you copy the link from web browser, it can detect and put it in the dialog box of it so that you can start downloading immediately.

YouChoob, is so far the best one I found out. So far, because sure someone else will write a better one, but not me. :P

You just need to download it from the author's website and unzip it to a directory you preferred and you are good to go. You can figure other settings yourself :). It said you need at least Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, but if you are using Windows XP and above, you should probably have the .NET Framework.

Sorry, no print screen, too lazy to do that, and my portable Photoshop is not working on Windows 7 anyway. :P

Samsung Omnia 7

Samsung never fail to deliver its flagship smartphone that carry "Omnia" name. This video (after the jump) is super long ~13mins, with no sound. Nice! But......



One of the thing that I don't like WP7 is lack of switching between multitask jobs. Come on MS, Steve already make the multitask working on his iPhone (yes, it is working now, but not perfect!)
I am a heavy Windows (I mean PC), hence I do expect multitasking on my smartphone as well, just like my HTC Touch Elfin (WM6.1). Even though this Elfin is very slow (yes, 200MHz!), but I just love the multitasking.
