Running Froyo on your laptop

I have posted about running android on netbook or laptop [link] last year July. That time was Android 1.6 only.
Recently I have downloaded Android 2.2 a.k.a Froyo that have been modified to run on x86 a.k.a. any normal netbook/laptop.



Since Pentium 4 laptop not with me at the moment, so I give it a try on Virtual Box.
See picture below, it is Android 2.2.1.

Since the network connection to/from VirtualBox is not working, so I can't try out the web browser or google map or anything that need Internet connection. However when I switch to animated wallpapers, which is very famous for Android phone, I got 50% of my CPU on the laptop used by the the VirtualBox. Hmm... How it gonna run on old system?

I might try it on the old Pentium 4 laptop to see if it works or not, not with VirtualBox, but with LiveCD feature on that ISO. Now I need to figure out how to make a bootable USB drive and make that Pentium 4 boot from it...... That is another story, stay tune. :)

More digital books than paperback books

You heard it right. Amazon now is reporting selling more digital books (on kindle) than paperback books. I have a friend show me his kindle that he asked another friend to buy from US. The kindle not only can read the digital format from Amazon, it also reads pdf and a lot of photo formats, of course no color.


Some China companies are working on color kind of kindle, so I would think that is the next step, no more papers, just digital format, anywhere, anytime.

Nowadays I have been reading a lot of Chinese novels on my old HTC Touch Elfin. This smartphone is not in Chinese, but in English version, but after some sort of hacking (from googling around of course!), I can read Chinese text, nicely. HEHE.

Lego'lized your photos

ah... lego, good old memories for most of the people, and some still have lego and I know some people has die-hard fans of lego and they have at-least one set of sophisticated lego set of their home/room. Sophisticated means it has programming circuits and motors that you have program it to do with the battery power.

Okay, I am way too off the topic, I want to introduce you to this website that can lego'lized your photos, you can use you photos uploaded on web, you just need to give the link. Or if you don't have photo on web, it provide another website for you to upload it first before you lego'lized your photos.

I tried with one of the photo in this blog, and it looks okay. I think it is better on words or logo, not picture or people photos, unless it is a simple one.
This is the one I have tried:

You can download the lego'lized photos, here is my sample:

It can even tell you how many lego bricks that you need to build that lego'lized photo, and down to detail of the color of the lego bricks. In my example it tell me this:
125 bricks x 104 bricks
100 cm x 99.84 cm

You can also edit it before save it out. This is really cool, because you can adjust the lego'lized photo to suite your need.

How do I disable zip folders in Windows 7?

I have not being posting any tutorial for a long long time, in fact I forgot which one was it the last one. :P Anyway you still can find it here.

Okay back to today's topic, if you are using Windows 7 (any version), you do notice that the zip files (and cab files) are being listed as a folder in Windows Explorer. Although some find it useful, I find it very annoying, because it make the folders tree looks clustered, just simply annoying. So if you want to disable it, here is what you can do.



Note: back up your registry first.

Okay here we go (You can delete directly for Windows Vista and do a reboot without the steps below):
The following two (2) keys need to be deleted fromthe registry:
For zip files delete the regkey
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{E88DCCE0-B7B3-11d1-A9F0-00AA0060FA31}
For cab files delete
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0CD7A5C0-9F37-11CE-AE65-08002B2E1262}

When you try to delete them, you will almost certainly get an "access denied" or "failed" type of message. Before you can delete them, you need to change the permissions/ownership of these two keys. Here is how to do it:

01 - open regedit from the RUN console

02 - navigate to the first key that needs to be deleted (HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{E88DCCE0- B7B3-11d1-A9F0-00AA0060FA31})

03 - right click on the key and select "Permissions"

04 - click on "Advanced"

05 - click on the "Ownership" tab

06 - in the "change owner to" section, highlight your username

07 - check the box for "replace owner on subcontainers and objects"

08 - click on "Apply"

09 - Click "OK"

10 - Under "Security" tab, highlight your username and check the box for "Allow Full Control" (located mid-menu in the "Permissions For Administrators" section)

11 - click "Apply" and "OK"

12 - you can now delete the registry key. MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON THE CORRECT KEY!

13 - repeat the process for the 2nd key.

14 - reboot (changes will NOT take effect until you reboot

15 - VOILA! NO MORE ZIP FOLDERS! woohoo!

16 - thanks to the original solvers of this problem, whomever they may be.

But I just to say that technology nowadays make many of our daily stuffs that we think it is by default, but 15 years ago it is either impossible or you need to get the professional to do it for you, example video editing on your PC/laptop.

Okay, lets look at the video, anyone could make it and there are freeware available to do it. Of course if you want a better software, you have to pay some amount for it.

Angry birds Walk-through part 1

Warning: This video is spoiler for those who would like to play Angry Birds on their own skill/pace. Don't watch it if you wish to play Angry Bird with your IQ.



I google for it because I have been trying level 2-12 for more than 10 times, probably my skill sucks. :P

Anyway, it is good to watch it after you finish those level to see how other people play it, with style, because almost all the level showed in the video get 3 stars. And I get 1 or 2 stars most of the time. :P

These Angry Birds producers are very smart, all the levels are same across for version from Windows, Mac, Android, Symbian, or iOSes (iPhone/iPad/iPod). You can run it directly from the web or download it and run it from your local hard drive.

Please note this: clean up the Logon, Sidebar Gadgets and Scheduled Tasks tabs only, do not change/delete other items in other tabs unless you know what you doing. The reason is your might break Windows and end up re-installation the Windows.

Also run it as administrator, use with cautions, I do not responsible if anything happen to your Windows and you! :)

AngryBird for Windows is here!

I have been waiting for Angry Bird to come to Windows or Windows Mobile. Windows Mobile should have no luck at all, but finally Angry Bird is on Windows! Nice.

TweakUI for Windows 7 (and Vista)

Microsoft never and will not release TweakUI (so far) for Windows 7. So if you don't find it comfortable to edit the registry of Windows 7 and Windows Vista, there a freeware tool out there for you to use.


Introducing WinBubble:

You can tweak Windows 7 (and Vista) to suite your need. You can hide and unhide lots of stuffs. So far I just use it to change the logon wallpapers only, haha, because haven't have the time to play with it.

I would recommend to run it as administrator, because tweak always need administrator permission. :)

How to change boring Office Communicator to not so boring

Do you use MS Office Communicator? Many companies actually allow Office Communicator, but block Windows Live Messenger (WLM) at the office. But communicator is very boring, super boring.


Unlike WLM, communicator don't have animated smiley, also you can't change the name/status as you like.

If you Google around, there are some solution to change the status of communicator, but you need to do some hacking, which some people don't like to do.

So Jak wrote a tool to help to change the status as you like. Also there is the problem with the hacking mentioned above, which is you need internet access, if your company don't allow internet access, there is nothing happen after the hacking, Mr Jak fixed that also.

My co-worker can't stop laughing with the "Busy being awesome" status. :D

Okay, you need to just download, install and change the status of communicator.
